• Between 15 and 30 years of age
• Has to be full time student and intending to return to school in the Fall ( acceptance letter required for post-secondary students)

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, 2018. ROADSIDE HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE ONLY.  NO DUMPING IN THE GARBAGE TRUCK BY THE TOWN OFFICE AND NO PICKUP OF ANY OTHER MATERIAL OTHER THAN HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE ON THE REGULAR GARBAGE PICK-UP DAY. 

(Dumping fees as hit the roof)

 DUE TO THE INCREASE IN DUMPING FEES:

Dumping fees are currently $59.00/Tonne.  January 1st, it will increase to $75.00 per tonne and July 1st, 2018 it will rise to $164.00/tonne.

 Remember to recycle, reduce, and reuse in order to save cost.

There will still be a town spring up.

 

Dumping in the garbage truck is bringing rodents to the area.

 

Dumping in the garbage truck is being abused by residents and outside residents.

Dumping in the garbage truck will be prohibited and will be monitored by an outside camera.

When garbage is being dumped in the truck other than the regular garbage pick-up day it cannot be used by maintenance for other jobs that would require the use of the truck.

Western Regional Waste Management

You are required to have a card to dump at the Wild Cove waste disposal site.  This card can be picked up at the WRWM office in Corner Brook.  For further information phone 632-2922. Remember there are items that we cannot accept such as tires, shingles, fridges, etc.  This is not the town rules it’s the WRWM rules.  We are not allowed to bring these items to the dumping site.

Good-day everyone with this being Fire Prevention Week and all the GVFD will be having an open house at the fire hall on Thursday evening @ 7 pm for all parents and children. It's very important in today's society and everyday that we teach our children about the effects a fire can have on our lives and everyone around us. Just being knowledgeable about certain aspects of fire can help save the lives of the ones we hold most FAMILY. Stay safe.

Nomination for Candidates of Gillams will be received between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., August 30, 2017 to August 31,2017, at the Gillams Town Offfice.
A $10.00 deposit is required.
The qualifications of a candidate for election to council are as follows:
1. Canadian citizen who is 18 years of age or older;
2. Ordinarily resident in the municipality or area for at least 30 days prior to the date set for the commencement of the nomination period;
3. Not in arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the municipality; and
4. Not otherwise disqualified under the Municipalities Election Act.
  IMPORTANT NOTICE
A water leak repair is scheduled for next Thursday, July 27, 2017. This is a major leak repair across the main highway in Gillams. Areas in town will lose their water for a period of time. Estimated water turn off time will be at approximately between 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Have extra water ready as this water leak repair may extend long periods of time. Depending on if any troubles may arise it may be up to 8 - 10 hours and MAY extend into Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. So be prepared to just in case it do run into Friday. Cutting of the highway is necessary in order to repair this leak. 
Areas that will lose their water:
All North Shore Highway
Pioneer Avenue
Beach Road.
Forest Drive
Mill Road.
Farm road and area may experience high water pressure as the main shut off will be turned off at the beginning of Farm Road.

Gillams Recreation Committee will be receiving a grant of $4,795.00 for more ball field upgrades.... Keep the grant money flowing... :)
March 28, 2017 We are pleased to announce that funding has been approved in the amount of $5,261.25 for three bunker suits for our Fire Department. Making this approved funding for 13 bunker suits since 2015. :)

October 09, 2015 Upon the Mayors resignation and through a secret ballot procedure Councillor Patricia Penney was voted in as Mayor.  Eddie Blanchard will resume the role as Deputy Mayor.  Mayor Penney has previously retired from the Military and is currently taking Occupational Health & Safety at Academy Canada.  She has been with the town council of Gillams for 4 years.  She is smart and intelligent and will fill the role as Mayor for the Town of Gillams nicely.  We will continue to strive together as a council to make the best decisions and perform to the best of of knowledge the duties that is required to keep our town up and running smoothly. 
October 09, 2015 On Sunday, September 27, 2015 Joy Burt Mayor of Gillams submitted her resignation as Mayor. 
Her resignation was accepted at a council meeting held on Wednesday, October 07, 2015.  The Town council and Town Manager wishes Ms. Burt much happiness and success in her future endeavours and she will be surely missed.  Ms. Burt was Mayor for a 5 year period and showed professionalism, respect and dedication to her role as Mayor.  We would like to take this time to thank her for her volunteer hours and her dedication to the Town of Gillams.

The Recreational Committee along with The Community of Gillams are having a celebration of accomplishment at the Gillams Community Hall @ 7 p.m. on Monday August 10, 2015. Finger foods and refreshments to be served.  Everyone is welcomed to come and celebration this wonderful achievement from our very own, Jackie Barrett the self-anointed "Newfoundland Moose",in what will be remembered as a finale unlike any other in Special Olympics history.

Town Council of Gillams would like to send a sincere thanks to Scott and Linda Blanchard for their donation to the Town of Gillams Recreation Committee a sound system valued at $2000.00. Scott Blanchard who recently hosted a C.D release party for his new C.D. "Son of a Son"......in memory of his father the Late Bernard Blanchard who lost his life in a boating accident this past summer. Scott Blanchard who is presently the President of the Gillams Recreation Committee was more then happy to be able to help raise funds through his event to purchase the sound system. The Town Council of Gillams, the residents of Gillams, and the Gillams Recreation Committee we thank you!

January 30, 2015 The Town Council of Gillams would like to extend a great big thank you to all the Fire Department Volunteers from the Town of Gillams and the Town of Meadows who pulled together on Saturday, January 24, 2015 to fight a tragic house fire.  To all the people who helped in any way we send a huge thank you.  In a disaster such as this its nice to know how the community and neighboring communities pull together to lend a helping hand.  It is with great sadness that this fire took a life of one of town's resident.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the O'Brien family at this time.

On Saturday, January 24, 2015, a house, owed by Albert & Shirley O'Brien, was destroyed by fire in our little Town of Gillams. Unfortunately, Mrs. O'Brien has been air lifted to St. John's for medical care. A fundraiser is being held to help the family at this difficult time. On Monday, February 2 a card game/bake sale is being held at the Gillams Community Hall. Any donations, whether it's a prize, bake item or monetary donation, would be greatly appreciated. December 19, 2014 Gillams Recreation Committee will be hosting a New Years Eve Party @ the Gillams Community Hall on Wednesday December 31st, 2014. Doors will open @ 9 p.m. and music will start @ 10 p.m. Music is being played by the Gillams Recreation Music System. There will be spot dances, a door prize and party favorites. B.Y.O.B. October 9, 2014 A water leak repair is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2014.  Early in the morning...the repair is taking place on church road...Roads affected by the water turn off...All of North Shore Highway, Pioneer Avenue, Bayview Crescent and across the brook... Mill Road & Forest Drive......FARM ROAD AREA WILL NOT BE AFFECTED.  It is undetermined at this time how long the water will be off...hopefully a quick and easy fix...If for some reason we run into trouble it may exceed more than one day...if this happens Garbage will have to be post-pone until Thursday...and water will be turned off again on Wednesday...Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!!!!
October 06, 2014 If for some reason in the future you are looking to have your water turned on/off at the curb stop please notify the town office at least a couple of days in advance so maintenance can be scheduled.  A short notice is not giving the appropriate time to make the proper arrangements.  Our Town's Maintenance works for both communities the Town of Gillams and the Town of Mcivers and cannot operate on a short notice.  Please advice the town in advance.  There is also a fee for water turn on/off of $50.00.

Tragedy like this hits us so hard to the point of unbelief and leaving us with the question of "why"... to the two surviving Gillams residents from this boat tragedy we would like to offer many prayers as you face the days ahead...if there is anything the Gillams Town Council or myself can offer to help in anyway were here for each and everyone of  you.  For the families involved may God be with you and give you the strength you need to help you through the healing process.....RIP my friend!

AS YOU KNOW THE TOWN OF GILLAMS FIRE DEPARTMENT AS BECOME TRAINED FIRST RESPONDERS.  THE TOWN COUNCIL HAS PROVIDED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT (FIRST RESPONDERS) WITH A TABLE OF STREET ADDRESSES AND CORRESPONDING NAMES OF RESIDENTS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASSISTING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN RESPONDING TO EMERGENCY CALLS WITHOUT DELAY.  THE INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED IS ALREADY IN THE POSSESSION OF THE TOWN THROUGH THE ASSESSMENT ROLL.  ACCORDING TO THE OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION PRIVACY COMMISSIONER THIS IS A REASONABLE AND RESPONSIBLE USE OR DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION IN EMERGENCIES INVOLVING PEOPLE'S HELATH AND SAFETY.  THE ACCESS OF TO INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT WOULD APPLY TO SUCH A SITUATION.

‎2011 Gillams Santa Claus Parade, Sunday December 11th at 2pm. Starting from the old highschool and then returning to the Community Hall to meet Santa and receive a loot bag. Any organization/family wishing to enter a float please be at the old highschool at 1:30pm. Sponsored by your local Fire Department and Recreation Committee. Meet Santa afterwards at the Community Hall.  Prizes for best float!

Write a letter to Santa
Decorate cookies for your Mom and Dad
Goodie bags for the kiddies

THE TOWN COUNCIL OF GILLAMS WOULD LIKE ADVISE ITS RESIDENTS THAT THE WATER LINES WILL BE FLUSHED ON  WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 30, 2011 STARTING AT AROUND 9:00 A.M.   WEATHER PERMITTING.  MAY EXCEED MORE THAN ONE DAY. DURING THE FLUSHING AND CLEANING, RESIDENTS MAY EXPERIENCE DIRTY WATER LINES AND LOW TO HIGH PRESSURE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.  COUNCIL APOLOGIZES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.

September 27, 2011 MESSAGE FROM THE GILLAMS RECREATION COMMITTEE:
The Gillams Recreation Committee are currently seeking students from our community requiring volunteer hours for school to assist with cleaning at the community hall.  If you are interested and need the hours please contact Chantille @ 783-2632 to have your name added to the list.
Aug 30, 2011 The town's water supply will be shut off on Wednesday, August 31st beginning at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for connection to the new water in-take.  The water will gone for most of the day.  Please make the necessary arrangements to prepare yourself for this waster disconnection.  Please note the boil order is still in effect.  The town will notify the public when the new water intake is complete.  Please be patient with the town while we prepare with the necessary preparation to get this water system up and running.  Please look for advertisements on the date when the town's lines will be flushed.  It is estimated another 2-3 weeks before you will notice any difference in the town's water supply.
